Now Playing

My new Canon 5D MkII includes the ability to record HD movies. This is a totally new way of thinking for me, and one that I am excited to explore. As part of my crash course in film making, I have begun scouring the Web in search of inspiring video. From time to time I will feature some of the more interesting gems I’ve found.

This first one was recommended by a friend who is finishing up his Master’s degree in documentary film making. Beautifully narrated by Werner Herzog, Plastic Bag is a empathic tale of the life and struggles of a little plastic bag as it floats through the world in search of its lost maker.

Surprisingly, this is not the first film to imagine a discarded shopping bag taking on a life of its own, gliding along in sheer defiance against the bitter winds of a cruel and insensitive world. But in all seriousness, there is something astonishingly graceful about a plastic bag blowing in the wind. Call it poetry in motion.
