Auto Abstractions

I have always been car crazy. The roar of a 12-cylinder Ferrari engine sounds like a symphony to my ears. Bulging fenders are as sculptural to my eyes as the most magnificently carved marble statues.

Minor White famously said: “One should not only photograph things for what they are but for what else they are.” Taking that to heart I chose to focus on the sensuous curves and contours of these magnificent machines, selectively framing so that they are reduced to almost pure abstracted shapes — still recognizable for what they are, yet seen for what else they are, too.
